After a whirlwind of inspiring conversations, meetings and technical challenges, together with sixty different partners and retailers, the 23th of June the big day arrived: the opening of ‘Store of the Future’ at the Dutch shopping centre ‘New Babylon’.
“The temporary and flexible character that we had in mind comes to live because of the minimalistic and industrial design of Store of the Future. The focus is fully on the retailers and their technology”, said Creative Director Bob Damen, JosDeVries The Retail Company.
We are welcomed by a robot, operated by a service-member on another location. At the HEMA-shop you can try on the newest make-up without applying it. Within seconds you can digitally try numerous kinds of eye shadow, foundation and lip-gloss. Even the men can’t resist this experiment. In the virtual reality room it is possible to walk through a 3D supermarket. There are thirteen different shops, some examples: Perry Sport, Riviera Maison, La Place and MyMuesli. All these retailers developed their own innovations, which support the Customer Journey.
During the opening the theme of the Store was technology. All guests, including the media, could get familiar with all kinds of new technologies which will make future shopping easier, or more fun! “The idea of Store of the Future is a variation of retailers that are on temporary basis use space in the store to show and test their newest developments together with customers to stay future-proof” said Lieneke van der Laan, strategy consultant. Without customers it is impossible to test and that is what it is all about! A living retail lab, because innovating is something you do together. “Absolutely worth a visit” said Sven Manten, Commercial Manager.
